When a child faces a serious health condition, parents are confronted with fear and uncertainty. At Fakeeh University Hospital, we understand that it takes more than advanced medical skill to guide families through these moments. It also requires compassion, clarity, and an unwavering commitment to deliver hope.
Today, we share a remarkable story of a family whose experience with our neurosurgery team turned a frightening diagnosis into a life-saving outcome.
Monica, a devoted mother, recalls how it all began:
"A few months ago, our daughter started to feel occasional headaches. Through Google, we found Dr. Nils D. Haberland. We were really happy about him and how professional he was."
After careful evaluation and advanced imaging, it became clear that their child needed surgery for a neurovascular condition that was causing the symptoms.
Facing the prospect of brain surgery is overwhelming for any parent.
"The surgery was very, very scary for us. Too much, I would say. But with Dr. Nils D. Haberland, it was like a light in the dark," Monica shared.
Dr. Nils D. Haberland, Consultant Neurosurgery, provided detailed explanations and reassured the family with his calm, confident approach.
The procedure involved a combination of endovascular treatment and surgical removal of the affected vessels, known as an AVM (arteriovenous malformation).
Dr. Nils D. Haberland explained:
"This is a high-tech procedure, the highest level of what we know in neurovascular diseases. We first performed the endovascular treatment to target the AVM vessels, then completed the surgery to remove the remaining components."
The family also met Dr. Volkan Çakir, Specialist Interventional Radiology, whose expertise and kindness left a lasting impression.
"Thanks to him, we also discovered Dr. Volkan Çakir, who was amazing. Amazing," Monica added.
Beyond the advanced medical care, the family was touched by the warmth of everyone involved.
"Everybody here, the nurses, the doctors, the staff, everybody was so kind and always smiling. Incredible," Monica said.
"If you allow me to exaggerate a little bit, it was super excellent for the problem we were facing. Super excellent."
The outcome was better than they could have imagined.
"The surgery was done in the right way, and the rest of the AVM component was completely removed. It was like a miracle, to be honest with you. Still, I cannot believe it," Monica shared.
Today, their daughter is healthy, recovering well, and free of the headaches that first brought them here.
"Everything is great, and we saved the life of this little girl. Now we know everything is fine. She is fine. We are so happy."
