When faced with a life-changing diagnosis, the right support can transform fear into hope. For Gaya Erdogru, a Dubai resident originally from Turkey, her journey with stage two breast cancer became one of strength, trust, and healing at Fakeeh University Hospital.
“It was around November last year when I was diagnosed with breast cancer, stage two,” Gaya recalls.
Having been a patient at Fakeeh University Hospital for three years, Gaya already had trust in her care team. What she did not expect was how much that trust would grow into something deeper, comfort, friendship, and confidence in her recovery.
Gaya’s care was led by Dr. Serife Simsek, Consultant Breast Surgery, whom she describes not just as her doctor but also as a friend.
“She is very warm and a lovely lady. I never felt like I was coming to a hospital—I felt like I was coming home. It was always a friendly, warm place, and I never hesitated to come here,” Gaya explains.
Dr. Simsek later referred Gaya to Dr. Abdul Rahman, who continued her treatment journey.
Gaya was struck by the atmosphere at Fakeeh University Hospital.
“First of all, it’s really not like a hospital, it’s like a five-star hotel. I didn’t feel any depression here. It gives you a sense of safety, cleanliness, and a friendly environment,” she shares.
This environment, paired with advanced medical technology, reassured Gaya that she was in safe hands.
“I was lucky it was diagnosed at an early stage, and I was lucky to have such amazing and well-experienced doctors at Fakeeh University Hospital,” Gaya says.
The expertise of her medical team and the hospital’s treatment facilities gave her the confidence to keep fighting.
“I felt that I would never lose hope. With the level of treatment, the hospital equipment, and the knowledge of the people, I knew I was going to beat it and come back healthier than before.”
Gaya now shares her experience to inspire others.
“To other women who already have cancer, please don’t give up. Don’t lose hope. We are really in safe hands here—the doctors and nurses are amazing. You will feel like you can live again.
Please don’t be afraid to get diagnosed or get treatment. Early diagnosis will save your life. And always remember: darkness never stays till the end—light is always coming after the dark.”
